I saw Dawn of the Seeker!
Thanks to a very generous friend, I could watch Dawn of the Seeker today. I won't do any spoilers, but here are some things that I thought you might want to know:
Acting: The voice actors kind of stink. Don't expect Anders or Merrill or Oghren or Alistair level. The person playing Cassandra managed to make her sound flat and well... drone-ish. Gackt is Gackt. He might have made Genesis from FFVII:CC rock, but as a character from pseudo-medieval Euroamerican fantasy, he didn't do a great job in my opinion. Grade: Cчитать дальшеStory and Character: The characters seemed relatively stock to DA world, but I might be being cruel here. The story seemed almost a replay of DA:O in a sense, with the plot line of "not so important person gets framed and become the society's baddie, and has to go on a quest to redeem the name and become a hero" kind of a storyline. It almost seemed "Here is what happens if Warden was actually a seeker, not a Warden!". Also, Anders DAO:A Version 2 shows up. As a film itself, not part of the franchise, it is almost impossible to have any clue what's going on, just like FFVII: AC. Grade: B-.
Graphics: Some parts look so anime-ish I was almost certain the same artist from Naruto was working on it. Then the action scenes were so game-y I was almost certain a varterral will pop out, DA2 style. It was a bit jarring. The characters also vaguely looked similar to any character made by an Asian in DAO or DA2 (read: huge eyes, small face, small mouth), but that might be inevitable. The gore was there, but it was not distracting. The music definitely sounded more Japanese-y, but as I didn't pay much attention to it, that's all I can say. B+
I'm really glad I got my ticket for free, but I would not dish out any money to buy the DVD; I'd rather save that for another DA game (or the comic or the book or whatever). I doubt I'd watch it again.
Was it cringe and horror-inducing as I'd expected? No. Was it fun to watch? As a DA fan, it was, but then again I take joy in watching the mabari dance to Baha Men, so my taste regarding this matter is dubious. Will I pay a regular DVD price to watch this again? Probably not. If I didn't play DA games, will I like it? Most definitely not.
Gackt's theme song was also... weird, considering the world view. I had a mental image Fenris singing it and giggled hysterically. But hey, he dances when he's bored in the mansion so maybe he will sing too. If somebody made a mod of that, I'd so download it...--GabrielleduVent (talk) 04:04, February 12, 2012 (UTC)
2 questions. Any hint of when it takes place? and What context does Anders pop up? Tommyspa (talk) 05:06, February 12, 2012 (UTC)
It is quite before Cassandra makes an appearance in DA2, as she is very young and is quite a newbie (a la Warden being only a day-long Warden in DA1). Therefore, subject to an older, more respected guy going "she's the bad one! GET HER!" and her having to run for her life.
As for Anders, he doesn't actually pop up (sob). But a similar character does show up, as in a mage with a good sense of humour. Or maybe mages are always cracking jokes and we just never get to see it because the mages around the Warden were such sour apples. --GabrielleduVent (talk) 05:13, February 12, 2012 (UTC)
Ah, misleading lol Anders is my favorite character outside of Loghain. Did Cassandra instill badassery worthy of my lofty hopes of her being my full-time dual wielding warrior in DA3? (all the promos show her dual wielding anyhow) is it exclusively her style in the movie? I suppose I had more questions. Tommyspa (talk) 05:22, February 12, 2012 (UTC)
Cassie wasn't as much of a badass as I'd expected, but I had lofty hopes for her from DA2. I sort of was hoping for Zevran kind of battle-style with dual-wield and speed, but my guess is she isn't exactly a rogue type to begin with, but more a fighter with dual-wield training. She still kicked butt, though (anything more and I might be spoiling, so forgive me).
Due to the fact that I actually squealed and considered dumping Alistair for Anders and living as two apostate mages in the Wilds for the rest of the Warden life during my second playthrough of DAO, I actually was very pleased to see Anders in DA2 until I met his emo-side. So I can see how disappointing my misleading was for you . My sincerest apologies. --GabrielleduVent (talk) 05:27, February 12, 2012 (UTC)
So... Overall it sucked? Big effing surprise.-Algol- (talk) 10:15, February 12, 2012 (UTC)
It didn't "suck" - I thought it'd be as as bad as one of those D&D movies (man, THOSE sucked big time. I laughed throughout the entire thing when it was released) but it wasn't good either. It was interesting, perhaps entertaining in some parts, but the actual ticket price in Japan can range from $20 to even $50 in some cases. SO NOT WORTH IT. --GabrielleduVent (talk) 14:35, February 12, 2012 (UTC)
Lol well i wasnt expecting it to be good so (11:21, February 12, 2012 (UTC))
Apologies for offtopic, but I have to get it out of my system. "Gackt", is that some VA/singer's moniker? It sounds exactly like a cat throwing up a hairball. Oh dear, I'm not even planning to watch this, but it already entertained me greatly. Now just to stop giggling somehow... Dorquemada (talk) 12:40, February 12, 2012 (UTC)
Gackt is the dude who did voice acting for Genesis from FFVII, and also sang the theme song for this movie and FFVII's Dirge of Cerberus (I'm going to shut up before I dig myself deep into the pit of nerd-dom). He's voice-acting one of the Templar biggies in this movie. Not only can he not voice-act (Genesis sounded decent because the character was actually written for him) because he always acts "I'm too cool for this sh*t" which makes the Templar character sound very flat and boring, the character he's playing is supposed to take a sort of Loghain's role, position-wise in the plot. I was expecting Meredith Version 2.0 with lots of emotional hoohah about duty as a Templar and maleficarum being bad and Cassandra being scum of Thedas, but it sounded a bit like C3PO saying the lines.
He also had an armada of plastic surgery, and consequently looks a bit freakish. Be prepared to look upon a face of "I've been under the knife so many times not even my mother can recognise me now" if you google him. He has a beautiful voice, though. Pity.
